Slovenia's capital has two types of public transport: bus and bike rental.
Bus
The public transport operator is Ljubljanski potniški promet (LPP). To travel by bus you will need one of two Urbana cards:
- The (yellow) Urbana value card is transferable and can be used to pay for single rides by depositing credit. You can purchase it at any kiosk, post office or Urbanomat.
- The (green) Urbana time card is non-transferable and can be used to buy monthly passes and pay for single rides by depositing credit.
As a student (exchange student or trainee) at UL VF you are entitled to a subsidised monthly pass:
- Fill out the application form below. You will require your personal registration number (EMŠO) and a certificate of enrolment, both of which you will receive upon your arrival at UL VF. You do not need the signature and stamp of UL VF.
- Take your application form (along with your ID or passport and certificate of enrolment) to the LPP Ticket Office at Slovenska cesta 56, Ljubljana, or the Ljubljana Bus Station at Trg OF 4, Ljubljana (see the working times).
Bike rental
BicikeLJ is Ljubljana's single-ride bike rental system. To use the service, you will require any kind of Urbana card. Register on their website and pay the subscription; you can then rent any of the bikes in the system.
As a student (exchange student or trainee) at UL VF you are entitled to subsidized student meals in selected restaurants in Ljubljana and other cities in Slovenia. You can find the list of restaurants here. Please note that subsidized student meals are not available between July 15th and August 15th.
To join the system of subsidized student meals, follow the registration procedure described here. To complete your registration, you will require your personal registration number (EMŠO) and a certificate of enrolment, both of which will be provided to you at UL VF's welcome meeting or when you visit our Office for Scientific Research and International Affairs upon your arrival. Once you have obtained both documents and submitted the online pre-registration form, complete the registration process by visiting the local point for student meals at Pivovarniška ulica 6 in Ljubljana (open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 15:30).
