The purpose of extracurricular activities is to promote the development of competences, skills and commitment in fields that are not directly part of the study programme in order to enhance career development opportunities and to facilitate placement in the labour market.
Phrenicus is a mixed choir of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine that was formed in March 2014. Currently 27 students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine are involved in the choir, which is led by Maruša Mavrič, a 3rd year student of the Academy of Music. The choir performs mainly at various events of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, thus enriching such events from a cultural perspective, as well as at other lectures within the veterinary profession.
The choir made its first appearance at Freshers’ Week at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2014, and it also performed at the Index Awards 2015, at the 5th Slovenian Veterinary Congress in Portorož, at the National Celebration of Independence and Unity Day at Cankarjev dom, at the IRIS Veterinary Day, and at the 2015 Freshers’ Week at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and in early June of the same year the choir performed its first annual ‘Songs of a Generation’ concert.
In addition to singing, socialising among students of different years and interconnectivity among them is, of course, also important, which is created at choir rehearsals and during weekends of intense rehearsals and performances. Being a member of the choir also provides students with a form of relaxation from hard study, which is also of importance.
