International Summer School for Veterinary Students and Postgraduates

From Sperm and Oocyte to Offspring: The Journey of Canine and Feline Reproduction
Summer School Objectives
The international summer school is aimed at domestic and international veterinary students and postgraduates who wish to deepen their knowledge of reproduction in dogs and cats.
The overall program includes an intensive treatment of all relevant aspects of reproduction and is based on interactive, individual and practical work. The lectures are divided into sections and focus on the specifics of the reproductive cycle in dogs and cats, the interactive interpretation of vaginal smears and hormone test results. The course continues with knowledge of pregnant animals, special features, fetal growth, age determination, fetal sex determination, adequacy and development of the placenta and postnatal fluid, nutrition and obstetric and perinatal diseases. This will be followed by presentations on elective and emergency cesarean sections, appropriate postnatal nutrition and finally postnatal problems and care of the newborn. Topics will be interactive and practical and will be discussed using clinical cases. Students are given a specific assignment at the beginning of the course, which they must complete, reference with literature, critically evaluate the relevance of the articles and prepare a presentation. The school also includes a social program with a visit to Ljubljana, an excursion to Lipica and Piran and a hike to Rožnik.
