Surgery and Ophthalmology

The Unit for Surgery and Ophthalmology provides a variety of diagnostics and surgical treatment services for soft tissue and skeletal disorders, ophthalmic examinations and treatment, oncology surgery, in collaboration with other clinics and institutes in Slovenia and further afield when appropriate.

About 450 procedures are performed annually on cats and dogs, most of which require general anaesthesia which is handled by a well-trained team of experts in the field of small animal medicine. The Unit for Surgery and Ophthalmology unit includes the fields of soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics and ophthalmology.

Soft tissue surgery

Head and neck surgery
  • surgery of the ear, nose and throat
  • surgical treatment for throat paralysis
  • TECA - complete hearing ablation/lateral osteotomy of the tympanic bulla
  • ventral osteotomy of the tympanic bulla by removing polyps in cats
  • surgical treatment of soft palate defects
  • surgical treatment of brachycephalic syndrome
  • surgical treatment of salivary gland diseases

 

 Chest surgery
  • lung surgery
  • surgical removal of foreign bodies in the trachea
  • surgical treatment of chest injuries
  • surgical removal of the pericardium
  • surgical correction of open patent ductus arteriosus (PDA)

 

Abdominal surgery
  • elective surgery - sterilisation and castration of cats and dogs
  • surgical removal of tumours in the abdomen
  • surgical removal of some organs or parts of them (liver, spleen, kidney, adrenal gland, bladder, etc.)
  • surgical diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases (including treatment of perineal hernia)
  • surgical treatment of diseases of the urogenital system
  • surgical treatment for traumatic abdominal injuries

To make an appointment for a check-up or procedure please call us on 01 4779 277 between 8am and 7pm on weekdays and between 8am and 1:30pm on Saturdays. Appointments can be made during the week in the morning or in the afternoon - there is no waiting period - and check-ups are carried out on weekdays between 8am and 9am. Specialist orthopaedic examinations are performed on Mondays from 8.00 to 12noon. Elective anaesthesia is only carried out in the morning, however, you can call our 24 hour helpline on 090 60 22 in the event of an emergency.
