UL, Veterinary Faculty will host EVCBMAW 2026 on 1–2 October 2026 in Ljubljana.

As one of the leading European events in the field of veterinary behavioural medicine and animal welfare, the congress will bring together internationally recognised experts, researchers, clinicians, students and professionals working in animal health and welfare.

The congress programme will include:

keynote lectures by leading European experts,

In foxes, we conducted the first study on the occurrence of poisons for rodent control in non-target species in Slovenia and the Western Balkans.

Preserving the environment is one of the fundamental priorities of the European Union. Nature and biodiversity have been protected for many years by several laws that are now integrated into the broader framework of the European Green Deal, which is one of the six overarching priorities of the European Commission for the period 2019‒2024. Interest in environmental research is high in Europe and worldwide, which also offers great opportunities for veterinary medicine to contribute to these efforts.

Wild animals are a good bioindicator of environmental pollution that affect the entire ecosystem. For this reason, we have started research at the Veterinary Faculty to determine the presence of environmental pollutants in representative animal species in Slovenia and to assess their toxic effects in order to make a holistic assessment of the risk of poisoning.

In foxes (Vulpes vulpes), we conducted the first study on the occurrence of poisons for rodent control in non-target species in Slovenia and the Western Balkans. In the liver, we found statistically higher concentrations of rodenticide pesticide residues with anticoagulant effects than in comparable studies in Europe and the world, which revealed and drew attention to a significant environmental problem of secondary poisoning in our country and region. The research results are related to the results of a survey of disinfection, disinsection and pest control (DDD) operators, which showed that the use of increasingly toxic second-generation rodenticides is increasing, mainly due to the increasing resistance of rodents to these less toxic and more commonly used substances in the past. We have linked the detected concentrations of rodenticides to regional and local urbanization and agronomic factors. The research results will contribute to knowledge about the protection of European ecosystems, as wildlife is not limited by national borders.

The DPO - Clinic for the Healthcare and Breeding of Horses and the recognised breeding associations (hereinafter: PRO) for individual breeds of horses informs breeders that the regular and subsequent licensing of stallions for the 2019 breeding season will be held on Thursday 7 March 2019 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cesta v Mestni Log 47, 1000 Ljubljana.

Re-licensing of stallions for the 2019 breeding season.

Regular licensing for stallions for the 2019 breeding season will be carried out for the following breeds:

Slovene Warm-blooded Trotter
Trotter
English Thoroughbred
Arabian Thoroughbred
Arabian Horse
Icelandic Horse
Shetland Pony

In agreement with the PRO, the subsequent licensing of stallions for the 2019 breeding season will be carried out for: Slovenian cold-blooded breed, Posavec breed, Haflinger breed of horse, quarter horses, appaloosa and paint horses.

Licensing is organised for stallions of the Slovenian cold-blooded breed, the Posavec breed and the Haflinger breed which were first licensed for the 2016 breeding season but were not brought for regular annual licensing in October or November 2018, as well as for all those who have not yet been recognised as breeders and would like to obtain a licence. Licensing is also organised for all stallions of the Slovenian warm-blooded trotter, Icelandic and Arabian horse breeds, for those who wish to renew their licence in accordance with the breeding programme.

The stallion screening and selection schedule will take place according to the following schedule on Thursday 7 March 2019:

09.00 - inspection and selection of stallions for Slovenian warm-blooded breed and trotter
09.30 - inspection and selection of stallions of the English thoroughbred, Arab full blooded and Arabian horse breeds
10.00 - inspection and selection of stallions of Icelandic breed, Haflinger breed and Shetland pony
10.30 - inspection and selection of stallions of American quarter horses, appaloosa and American paint horses
11.00 - inspection and selection of stallions of the Slovenian cold-blooded breed
11.30 - inspection and selection of stallions of Posavec breed

For licensing outside the scheduled dates, the licensing costs are borne by the owners of the stallions brought in.

The stallions brought in for inspection must have a valid identity document with registered ownership and prescribed statutory testing for equine infectious anaemia (EIA) and equine viral arteritis (EVA).

Stallions which are approved at the inspection and selection by the commission, will also need to undergo an examination for contagious equine metritis (CEM).

All stallions that are recognised as breeding animals for the first time will also need to undergo an andrological examination of semen in accordance with the Rules on the Reproduction of Domestic Animals.

Breeders who would like to have an inspection site in a location that has not yet been used should let us know by 30 April 2019. Please also let us know of any possible inspection sites to be deregistered.

Registration of inspection sites where three or more animals will be inspected is free of charge. In the event that the inspection site is at the location of the breeder at which less than three animals will be examined, the material costs of the inspection are included in the price. In such cases, the cost of inspections is approx. EUR 16.70. Inspection sites that are more than 20km away from the nearest registered inspection site are an exception.

In cases where inspections are carried out at breeders’ homes without prior notice, or outside the period of regular annual inspections, the price of the service is approx. EUR 33.40. The price of services is in accordance with the validated and valid price list.

The list of inspection sites for 2019 will be published in due course.
