Veterinary Faculty of the University of Ljubljana is organizing a Training course on the use of animals in procedures for research and educational purposes.

We would like to inform you that the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Ljubljana is organizing a Training course on the use of animals in procedures for research and educational purposes.

The course is organised in thematic modules. The core modules are aimed at all categories of personnel who work with or supervises work with animals in procedures: animal cartakers, scientists and technicians carrying out procedures, project managers and animal welfare officers. Other modules are tailored to specific roles.

The training will take place from October to December 2025 in the afternoons at the Veterinary Faculty. The planned start date is 13 October 2025.

Only appropriately trained personnel who fulfil the requirements of the Regulations on the Conditions for Performing Procedures on Animals (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 32/21) may work with animals in procedures for research and educational purposes. One of the requirements is the successful completion of basic training to the prescribed extent.

Thematic modules and their duration: animal caretakers - EU function C totalling 30 hours, scientists or persons performing procedures on animals – EU function A totalling 40 hours, project managers – EU function B and animal welfare officers – 80 hours.

Course fees (excluding VAT):

Animal caretakers (30 hours)	500 EUR
Persons carrying out procedures on animals (40 hours)	800 EUR
* Refresher training (40 hours)	800 EUR
Course for persons designing projects (80 hours)	1.000 EUR
Animal welfare officers (laboratory animals) (80 hours)	1.000 EUR

*The refresher training course is aimed at returning participants who have already completed the course for cariying out procedures and are now applying for the project manager or animal welfare officer modules.

The fee includes lectures and practical work, study material, refreshments during breaks, examination and the certificate of successful completion.

The above prices are subject to the condition that at least 15 participants register for the course.

The course fee must be paid before the start of the course. Registered participants will be informed of the final schedule prior to the start of the course. At the end of the course, candidates will take an exam. Those who pass the exam will receive a certificate of completion.

A challenging event in collaboration with EUTOPIA, the focus learning community “Veganism vs. Animal protein consumption".

Veterinary Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, in collaboration with EUTOPIA, learning communities is supporting the focus learning community entitled "Veganism vs. Animal protein consumption”, led by Dr Modest Vengust and Dr Laura Šimenc. As part of this project, we have prepared a challenging event that will focus on the culture of animal protein consumption. The first lecture will be given by Prof. Federica Marie Giovanna Timeto, who teaches sociology of the arts and critical animal studies at Ca´Foscari University in Venice. Her rather revolutionary views on society consuming animal proteins will be balanced by the lecture of Modest Vengust, Professor of Veterinary Medicine at the Veterinary Faculty, University of Ljubljana.

In 2019 we will again organise the Slovenian Veterinary Congress, the largest professional and scientific meeting of Slovenian veterinarians. The 7th congress will be an opportunity to meet with colleagues, exchange views and learn about the latest scientific and technical knowledge in the field of veterinary medicine. It will take place between 4 and 6 April 2019 in Portorož (Grand Hotel Bernardin).

In 2019 we will again organise the Slovenski veterinarski kongres, the largest professional and scientific meeting of Slovenian veterinarians. The 7th congress will be an opportunity to meet with colleagues, exchange views and learn about the latest scientific and technical knowledge in the field of veterinary medicine. It will take place between 4 and 6 April 2019 in Portorož (Grand Hotel Bernardin).

Thursday 4 April 2019 is scheduled as a pre-congressional day of Slovenian Small Animal Veterinary Association (SZVMŽ), where several different workshops will be organised in the field of endocrinology, orthopaedics, dentistry and electrochemotherapy. The regular annual assembly of the SZVMŽ will take place on the same day. The regular assembly of the Veterinary Chamber of Slovenia will be held on Friday 5 April 2019, while on Saturday 6 April 2019, a seminar for veterinary technicians will be held in the morning, as is already the tradition at symposiums of the SZVMŽ.

International Expert Meeting of Veterinary Pathologists.

This year, for the first time, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, in collaboration with the Charles Louis Davis Foundation and the Samuel Wesley Thompson DVM Foundation of the United States, is hosting an international expert meeting of veterinary pathologists. The meeting will take place from 29 to 31 May 2019 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. More information about the event and instructions for registration can be found on the website.
