  • Unit Activity

    The unit performs professional/operational and development activities in the field of diagnostics of infectious diseases and the health care of domestic animals, fish and bees, as well as operational and diagnostic activities in the field of food hygiene in the wider geographical area municipalities of Maribor, Ptuj and the Koroška region. In 2008 the Maribor unit merged with the Ptuj unit, becoming known as the combined unit Maribor – Ptuj
    In the described geographical area the unit also conducts veterinary hygiene services (VHS).
    In the context of these activities the unit collects dead and euthanised animals from the yards of breeders of domestic animals. This ensures the integrity of the environment as carcasses are collected daily from the yards of breeders who register animal deaths.
    The unit carries out work under the authority of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment, and the Ministry of Health, for the purpose of veterinary, market and health inspections, and for the needs of animal owners.

  • Education

        • In collaboration with the Centre for Permanent Education at the Veterinary Faculty, the unit prepares courses for insemination of animals.
        • In collaboration with the Centre for Permanent Education at the Veterinary Faculty the unit is involved in the education of beekeepers.

  • Professional Work

        • microbiological testing of clinical material, food, swabs and water, waste and sewage, mycological examinations, parasitological and serological testing and acceptance of samples for testing to be carried out at the unit centre sites of Šentilj 109, Maribor and at Ormoška 28, Ptuj.

    Methods which are accredited in the laboratory and published in the Accreditation Certificate No. SA. Charter LP021:
    1. ISO 6579 – detection of Salmonella in meat and meat products and in milk and dairy products, isolation and confirmation
    2.ISO 6579, Annex D – detection of Salmonella in faeces and in samples from the stage of primary production, isolation and confirmation
    3. ISO 11290-1 – detection of listeria in meat and meat products and in milk and dairy products, isolation and confirmation
    4. ISO 6888-1 – enumeration of coagulase-positive staphylococci – in meat and meat products and in milk and milk products
    5. ISO 4833 – enumeration of micro-organisms (technique of counting colonies on plates incubated at 30°C) in meat and meat products and in milk and milk products
    6. SOP 237- determination of inhibitory substances in milk with the Delvotest
    7. In 2008 the unit expanded its accreditation with additional methods, specifically in investigations on Campylobacter, counting Escherichiae coli, Elisa KPK and for these methods it is expected that approval of an increased scope of accreditation will be acquired.

    serologija    • Pathomorphic diagnostics – at the Ormoška 28, Ptuj location
        • Clinical examinations and treatment of bee colonies.
        • Monitoring of the reproduction of cattle and pigs, educating animal owners and carrying out education in  accordance with regulatory acts. This work is carried out in the areas of Central and Northeast Slovenia.
        • The provision of quality management to the extent of 50 % in the context of the programme of the units for quality assurance (EZK) and administrative work in reproduction, storage and distribution of quality documents.
